Volunteer

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller

At its core LakewoodAlive is a volunteer-driven organization.  In our ongoing efforts to foster and sustain vibrant neighborhoods in Lakewood, we rely heavily on the donation of time and talents by our dedicated network of volunteers.  Please consider contributing to our cause by volunteering with LakewoodAlive.

LakewoodAlive Volunteers

A group of volunteers pose after completing a housing project on Athens Avenue.

During a given year, as many as 500 volunteers contribute an estimated 8,500+ hours to serving LakewoodAlive and the community.  This incredible display of volunteerism is typically divided among three areas: Housing Outreach, Special Events and Committee Participation.

Housing Outreach

LakewoodAlive’s Housing Outreach Program assists homeowners through everything from volunteer housing projects to community engagement with low-to-moderate income residents to the Paint Lakewood Program.  LakewoodAlive undertakes nearly 50 housing projects each year focused on exterior maintenance issues, and volunteers are integral to the success of these projects.  These projects range from yard cleanups to porch repairs.  All skill levels are needed for this program.

Special Events

Lakewood Summer Meltdown Volunteers

Volunteers assist with setup for the Lakewood Summer Meltdown.

LakewoodAlive’s diverse slate of community events draws 35,000+ attendees to Downtown Lakewood annually.  Yet, as the saying goes, it truly takes a village to orchestrate the Lakewood Summer Meltdown, Front Porch Concert Series, Spooky Pooch Parade, Lakewood Chocolate Walk and Light Up Lakewood.  Volunteers are needed to serve on event committees, as well as to assist with event setup, execution and teardown.

Committee Participation

LakewoodAlive relies heavily upon committees comprised of volunteers to help facilitate our programming and oversee our areas of focus.  Committees, which are led by a staff member, meet on a monthly basis in the LakewoodAlive office.  New members are currently being sought for the following LakewoodAlive committees:

  • Design
  • Development/Fundraising
  • Housing
  • Lakewood Summer Meltdown
  • Light Up Lakewood
  • Marketing
