Lakewood residents Teresa and Armand B. have taken pride in their Westlake Avenue home for 24 years, overcoming the various challenges associated with maintaining a beautiful century home. Recently, however, one obstacle proved to be a tall task.
When peeling paint on their home’s exterior became a problem, Teresa and Armand were ready to spring to action and pursue a DIY paint job. Unfortunately, they lacked the proper equipment necessary to reach the second level of their Colonial-style home built in 1905.
“Like many Lakewood homeowners, we have a one-car garage with limited storage space,” said Teresa. “We don’t want to buy a large ladder for one-time use and have it take up precious space, and that’s why The Lakewood Tool Box came in handy.”
Having learned of The Lakewood Tool Box through social media, Teresa and Armand paid a visit to this tool lending library located behind the Screw Factory in Lakewood’s Historic Birdtown Neighborhood. There they received free consultation from LakewoodAlive’s knowledgeable staff.
After discovering the tool inventory at their disposal, Teresa and Armand decided to become members of The Lakewood Tool Box. They rented a 23-foot, multi-position ladder and later returned to rent a tall step ladder. Both ladders proved valuable toward completing their paint project.
“The Lakewood Tool Box made our big job much easier,” said Teresa. “We were able to reach all the high places to repaint our trim, and now our house looks great.”
Teresa indicated her family plans to return to The Lakewood Tool Box in the future as they seek to tackle additional home improvement projects.
“Our list of projects is long so we’ll definitely be back,” she said. “I would recommend the Tool Box to any Lakewood resident. I wish we’d had this option years ago.”
